Improving Youth Engagement in Pediatric-Adult Healthcare Transition through Game-Based Learning

Project Description

Children and teens with special health care needs, such as those living with congenital heart disease, often need additional support as they prepare to transition from pediatric to adult health care.

This project is evaluating an engaging approach to help young people build the knowledge and confidence they need for this important step. Using a comic book and game-based learning experience, the project introduces key transition concepts in an accessible, age-appropriate way. By combining storytelling with interactive learning, the project aims to empower youth to better understand their health, navigate adult care systems, and take an active role in managing their care.

Objectives

Test whether a comic book and game-based learning program is engaging and easy to use for youth with special health care needs.

Gather feedback from youth to understand what works well and what could be improved.

Use the results to refine the program and inform the design of a larger future study.
